DISPOSAL OF HAZARDOUS WASTES

ETI has specialised in managing problematic hazardous wastes like Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), dioxins and hazardous wastes from clean-ups of contaminated sites or landfill site remediations.

In cooperation with long time partners ETI offers solutions for an environmentally sound disposal of hazardous wastes.

On request ETI handles transboundary movements of wastes in accordance with the Basel Convention (e.g. notification of waste shipments, coordination and supervision of dangerous goods shipments by licensed carriers, etc.).

From « VVS» to «VeVA»

The Swiss « Verordnung über den Verkehr mit Sonderabfällen VVS» (Decree on the movement of hazardous waste) dated 1986, shall be adapted in order to comply with the existing EC regulations. The new regulation shall be called « Verordnung über den Verkehr mit Abfall VeVA» (Decree on the movement of waste). It foresees an administrational simplification in the case of transporting small quantities of wastes or returned goods. For example, it is planned to introduce an online movement/tracking form. Furthermore, the Swiss hazardous waste list shall harmonise with the European Waste Catalogue. The new decree shall not only cover hazardous wastes, but also regulate the movements of other wastes whose disposal has to be observed for environmental reasons. The VeVA shall summarise  the various existing decrees and regulations on the control of movements. Moreover, it shall contain an export ban on wastes that are subject to cantonal competence (e.g. municipal waste, sewage sludge, slag from municipal waste incineration plants, etc.). The ban on hazardous wastes that could be exported for incineration, however, shall be abolished.

Further information as well as the draft decree are available here!
